1) What have you been making lately?
I just got back from the European fashion weeks (London, Milan, Paris) where I was taking street-style and reportage photos for my blog Street Peeper and also for Vogue.com. Aside from that, I’ve been working on side projects including personal massagers, a food blog, a gay hookup website, and animated GIFs of fashion photos.
2) What’s your favorite and/or newest tool that you use for work?
My camera is about as essential to my work as can be, you know, being a photographer and all. I use the Canon 5D with two lenses — a 50mm f/1.4 for portraits and a 24-105mm zoom lens for most everything else. It’s probably the best camera you can get for the price. Though I’ve had it for about three years, and I don’t really treat it very well, so I think it’s time to get a new one. I’ve been meaning to get a 5D Mark II, but I’ve been holding out for the release of the Mark III.
3) What’s your favorite and/or newest tool that you use for fun?
I finally got a Nintendo Wii. I know I’ll never join a gym, or do running of any sort, and I’m too clumsy and uninsured for bicycling in the city. I decided this would be my one form of exercise, but the Wii Fit has been collecting dust while I’ve been sitting on my ass playing Donkey Kong Country.
4) What’s something great you’ve read lately?
The Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons. It’s the funniest history of the NBA you could possibly imagine, but I’d only get through a few pages at a time because I’d be YouTube’ing every game reference he made — the final play of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals (Bulls vs. Charles Smith), Isiah Thomas’ sprained ankle game vs. the Lakers, Karl Malone’s suit from the 1985 draft, etc.
5) Who should I interview for this series?
Ferran Adria, chef of El Bulli. Now that his restaurant is closed, I’d love to know what he’s been up to lately, and even more interested in knowing what sort of tech tools he uses to create his dishes.
