Apple’s huge week was big for Twitter and Facebook, too
Last week was huge for Apple: It sold 4 million of the new iPhone 4S, and more than 25 million people are already using iOS 5. It was also a big week for Twitter and Facebook, according to iPhone App Store stats from AppAnnie.
- Apple’s iOS 5 launched with built-in Twitter integration, and a link encouraging people to install the Twitter app from the iOS App Store. That helped drive the Twitter app from the mid-30s in the App Store rankings to a peak of no. 9 on Saturday.
- Facebook also released a major new version of its app last week. That, combined with the new iOS and iPhone launch, drove huge downloads. Facebook managed to stay ahead of Twitter in the rankings most days last week, going from the teens to peak at no. 4 on Saturday. Facebook for iPhone is now approaching 92.5 million monthly active users, according to AppData, up almost a million from last week.
