How much does it cost to make an Apple Store?

Apple StoreIn a new analysis, Asymco’s Horace Dediu calculates that Apple spends around $10 million on average to create each of its retail stores.

ifoAppleStore, an excellent resource on all things Apple Store-related, has a little more detail, but doesn’t show its steps:

  • Build-out, mall store – ~$450,000 (plus materials, total $1.3 million); ordinary high-profile $8-10 million; extraordinary high-profile $20-$40 million
  • Cost of wood furniture – $315,000 per mall store

How is Apple able to spend that much per store? Because its unique integration of hardware, software, service, support and commerce make it easier to recoup.
