NYT: Apple considers investing hundreds of millions in Twitter
Evelyn Rusli and Nick Bilton for the New York Times:
Apple has considered an investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars, one that could value Twitter at more than $10 billion, up from an $8.4 billion valuation last year, these people said.
Reminds me a little of Apple’s 1999 investment in Akamai, which remains a key partner. But back then, Apple only had to spend $12.5 million for 5% of the company.
Still, Apple can easily afford any investment in Twitter, or even an outright purchase. Makes sense.
Update: The WSJ says the talks were more than a year ago and that “People familiar with the matter said there are no current formal investment or acquisition discussions between the companies.” However you define formal.
