‘Rise Of The Tech Bandits’
I wrote the cover story for this summer’s issue of SAY Magazine, the official in-flight magazine for SAY Media, the company that sells the ads on this site and owns ReadWriteWeb.
It’s called “Rise of the Tech Bandits” and traces the evolution of tech media from print to web to whatever we have today. I spend a big part of the story focusing on The Verge and John Gruber’s Daring Fireball, including interviews with The Verge founder and editor Joshua Topolsky and John Gruber.
You can read the article as a blog post (without a lot of the artwork) here on SAY’s blog, or in slightly funky e-magazine former here, or download it as a PDF here. (Hidden in the back of the magazine: A sneak peek at the new ‘ReadWrite’ look, teasing the forthcoming ReadWriteWeb relaunch!)
I think you’re going to get a kick out of the graphics our illustrator, Riyahd Cassiem, put together. And I hope you’ll enjoy my article. Also worth a look: This map of the tech media universe. And this article by ReadWrite founder Richard MacManus, reminiscing about Michael Arrington and the early days of TechCrunch.
