Welcome to SplatF!
Welcome to SplatF, my new site. This is where I’ll be posting news, analysis, and commentary about the technology industry, with a special focus on Apple and mobile tech.
Who am I?
Previously, I helped create Silicon Alley Insider in 2007 with Henry Blodget and Peter Kafka, which grew to become Business Insider — now with 10+ million monthly readers. There, I did everything from reporting (5,700 posts) and editing to coding early versions of the site.
Before that, I was a technology reporter at Forbes, focusing on mobile and telecom. And before that, I studied at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, where I hosted a late-night radio show called “Fromming at the Mouth” and worked at a cool little wifi startup called UpZing.
I started designing websites in 1995, including my personal site, FromeDome. I grew up in Chicago but now live in Brooklyn, where I publish this site and work on some other new projects, which you’ll start to see later this year.
Why am I doing this?
I’ve always wanted to build my own company from zero — the way my father started his own ad agency after working for some of the biggest names in the business.
And after spending the last four years experiencing the rise of a digital news startup, I’m excited to see if I can turn self-publishing into a small business of my own.
How can you help?
Please email me at email@example.com if you have any questions or suggestions. I’ll try to respond when appropriate.
I’m particularly grateful to Brightcove for being SplatF’s launch sponsor. You can see their first sponsored post here, describing their new App Cloud platform for building mobile apps and touch websites. If you’re interested in sponsoring SplatF, get in touch.
